7/17: saw Bel Biv Devoe

No joke- it was amazing.  They were at this place Showcase Live (at Patriot Place) and it was truly something special.  My friend Kim and I went and we were clearly the outsiders because they kept giving shoutouts to people in the crowd that they grew up with (which was basically everyone else.)  They did a medley of New Edition songs and randomly had a dance contest in the middle of the (1 hr.) show during which they did not even play their own music.  I guess that’s what happens when you turn into a novelty- it wasn’t like they were trying out any of their new stuff.  And of course we bought t-shirts.

Kim tried to record “Poison” on her IPhone, but it didn’t come out (you could only hear us singing.  Haha.)  So enjoy this gem courtesy of youtube:

In somewhat related news, we saw Senator Scott Brown and his family (including the American Idol one) and we were desperately hoping they would be attending BBD.  Alas, it didn’t happen.  Or if it did, they were definitely tucked away in the VIP.

7/16: went to a new zoo

In preparation for our future role of “Fun Aunts,”  Tina and I took Ashley out on a Fun Day Extravaganza.  Here is a timeline of events:

10:00- left my house

10-11:00- sat in no reason traffic (the worst kind because it is so frustrating and then it just breaks for no reason)

11-11:10- picked up Tina, went to Dunkin Donuts

11:10-12:00- drove to Foxboro

12:01- blew out a tire

12:03- pulled over into a pull out

12:04- called AAA and Kate to explain why we were going to be late

12:15- Kate and Ashley arrived to wait with us

12:04-12:59- waited for AAA, yelled to passing cars that “We are supposed to be at the zoo!”, watched roughly 7000 cars pass without offering to help, listened to people beep and wave at us while flying by (we are especially thankful to the CVS care van that zoomed past us.  I imagine he gave us the finger as he kept going.)

1:01- left for the zoo

1:10-2:55- zoo (small so we got to see everything including but not limited to: kangaroos     lions     lemurs     sloths   goats     a llama     turtles     snakes) AND we ate the largest freezepops in existence

3:10- arrived at Friendly’s and had lunch and ice cream

4:00- dropped Ashley off

5:10- dropped Tina off

6:15- got home

What a day!

*Happy Anniversary, Jeanine and Joe!*

7/15: Oscar got the LION CUT

Sadly, the lady didn’t do a great job.  I will be taking him back tomorrow to be evened out as his fur is kind of all over the place length-wise.  Ossie is a good sport for sure!

First, please excuse the open closet as it is a mess.  Secondly, I am disappointed to see that he still has full fur on his limbs because I was under the impression that he would just have little tufts at his paws.

UPDATE: We are going back to get him evened out.  The groomer was very nice about it.

7/12: clocked in an hour at the gym

Never have I ever… been at the gym for an hour not including showering before today.  I ran/walked on the treadmill for 50 mins. and did arms for 10.  I feel fabulous!  4/5 days so far!

7/9: made an unwanted gym buddy

I was riding the bike today with my headphones in (you know I was watching trash- switching between THS: Rapper Wives and the Wendy Williams Show) when I was interrupted.  First, there are roughly 25 bikes, three of which were being used, so I don’t know why she needed to sit right next to me.  Second, I had headphones in.  Third, I can’t exercise and talk at the same time because I am getting into shape and am definitely not there yet. Fourth, I don’t want to talk there.

Highlights of our discussion:

Why the bikes are different sizes. (No idea.)

How can I be 32 and married and not have kids. (Don’t want them yet.)

Am I trying to lose weight. (Yes.  Why else would I be at the gym.)

Why- you are tall and thin.  (Fairly accurate but I feel very flabby.)

Are you sure you don’t want kids. (Not yet I said.)

How old are you. (32)

How tall are you. (5’9″)

How much do you weigh? (None of your business.)

Jeepers creepers.  How annoying even though she was just trying to be nice.  ALSO- She answered her cell phone while she was on the bike and had a 5 min conversation.  What???

7/8: joined the gym

I joined Planet Fitness because I want to make sure I will actually go to the gym before spending more money on a nicer gym with more (or any) amenities.  Things I like:

1. Not crowded.

2. Close to home.

3. Extremely inexpensive.

4. TVs on the bikes, treadmills, and ellipticals.

5. Staff is helpful.

Things I don’t like:

1. The Lunk Alarm.  Ridiculous.

2. The showers- you can’t adjust the temperature and the water shuts off after about a minute and a half.

I am going to make going to the gym my job this summer.  Monday-Friday I’ll be there.  I intend to get myself into shape before I head to Belize so I can go hiking and snorkeling and all sorts of fun stuff like that.

7/7: updated my budget

I’ve been trying to dig myself out of a credit card mess for awhile here, and recently (last October, see: https://trynewthings.wordpress.com/2009/10/15/1014-started-my-budget/), I made a budget.  I am happy to report that I have stuck to the budget and have paid off close to $6K.  Brian helped me switch my budget from a Word Doc. to Excel which is supposed to make it easier (how?) so I decided to redo my categories.  I can’t wait to get this all paid so I don’t have to think about it ever again.  Almost there- keep on keepin’ on.

7/6: checked out 7 books from the library

I always check out exactly six books, but today seven just seemed right.   This is my routine:

Step 1: Find eight books to preview.

Step 2: Take the eight books to the chair on the left.

Step 3: Read the first chapter of each book.

Step 4: Make a pile of Books to Check Out and another pile of Books to Leave Behind.

Step 5:  Make a final decision on the six books.

Step 6:  Check out and try desperately to avoid the Library Bitch.

Step 7:  Take the books and head home.

Step 8: Begin reading immediately.

Note: Steps 1-4 may have to be repeated in order to ensure that there are six books worth reading.

The Library Bitch wasn’t there, and we all know that makes for a great day.  The seventh book is cause for celebration!

Q: Why was 6 afraid of 7?

A: Because 7 8 9!

7/2 bonus: found a dog

I was driving on Rt. 1 today and noticed a dog (leash on) without a person.  It wasn’t tied to anything- just running.  I immediately pulled into the nearest parking lot to find the dog.  The dog was at this point (luckily) stuck in some bushes because his leash got caught.

Slowly, I walked to him and put my hand out, which he licked, and I got his leash untangled.  He had a harness, leash, and collar but no id tag.  So I took him shopping.

We went to DSW and they made an announcement over the speaker.  (I also looked at some shoes- ha.)  We went to Michael’s where they also made an announcement.  Finally, we went to Auto Zone where the boys looked at me like I was absolutely nutso when I asked them to make an announcement.  They didn’t, so I yelled, “If you lost a dog, I have it.  Meet me outside.”  Then doggy and I went to wait on a bench.

An hour passes and nobody claims poor little doggy.  I decide to call the police to see if anyone lost a dog.  Police says they will send someone out to help me get it to the vet to check for a chip (no way was I letting the dog go to Animal Control over a long weekend.)  As I am waiting for the police, the owners came and the lady was crying and the guy just kept saying, “thank you.  Thank you.”  Apparently, little doggy jumped out of the car when the lady was loading her groceries.    They had been driving around looking for him ever since.

So doggy (whose name I didn’t even think to ask for) made it home safely.  A happy ending for all, especially Clara and Oscar who don’t have to share their loft with a dog.

He looked kind of like this, but with a white chest.  I wish I took a picture!

7/2: found a wedding dress I love

So I found this wedding dress that I freaking love.  The only thing is that I have been married for 4 years.  I hope that this dress makes some bride supremely happy and absolutely stunning.

Image from: http://www.unique-vintage.com/images/unique-vintage/7045alarger.jpg

I love love loved my wedding dress, but this one would have given me second thoughts for sure.  Here’s me in mine (with my dad) in 2006:

Things I loved about it were:

1. It wasn’t too fancy.

2. You could see my shoes.

3. It was freaking perfect.

Ok, changed my mind- my dress was better after all.

In the interest of making sure you understand I am not wedding-crazed, I found this dress on a vintage dress website where it was mixed in with everyday dresses.  Check it out: http://www.unique-vintage.com/
