6/30: cleaned out my classroom June 30, 2009

I had no idea how much stuff I had.  I am teaching summer school which is at a different school than the one I work at, so I had to load up the car with stuff to take there.  BUT I don’t have my classroom yet so it is in my car.  Please don’t break into my car to steal children’s books and markers.  Thanks in advance.

Here’s an idea: if any strong person wants to make some money, get a CORI check and call your local school on the last day.  I can pretty much guarantee that teachers will fall all over themselves to have you clean their classrooms and move their things.  I would personally pay you a ton of freaking money to avoid this horrendous task.  However, I truly enjoy setting my classroom up so I don’t know if you could make this a two season gig.

Also, I cannot even believe that this day one year ago I was zooming across the Atlantic to Spain.  I am really sad because that was a fun adventure.  But I am still working on the Spanish, so that’s good.

*Happy anniversary to Jill and Bryan- one year yesterday!*

I’ve only been back a few days, but they have been super busy.  This was the first day that I had time to think.  Spain was like a dream for me.  I wish that Brian would come with me and we could go for a year.  Unfortunately, it can’t happen.

Although we had booked tickets literally months in advance, we were somehow put on the standby list for our flight from Madrid to Philly.  Being considerate people, we didnt’ flip, and Brian was actually really cool with the ticket counter people while I held our place in line.  The person in front of us was a dick, and interestingly, we didn’t see him or his family on the flight.   Five minutes before takeoff, they called us up and were like, “Seats 1F and 1G.”  We were like, “Are we sitting on the floor in the cockpit?”  Turns out we sat in first class and it was UNBELIEVABLE!!! How have I never done this before?

Shout out to US Air and SpanAir!

PS- Happy birthday, Rene’!

How good are these?  It is like fried dough.  I could eat these all day.

8-3 bonus: Fiesta de la Paloma September 24, 2008

We stumbled across this fiesta in Plaza Mayor.  It was so fun!  There were statues, street performers, a band, and fireworks.  This is pretty much all of my favorite things combined.

8-3: went to an Egyptian Temple September 24, 2008

Temple of Debod, which is in Madrid.  One of my dreams is to go to Egypt, but I haven’t been yet.  I am hoping to go in the next few years.  Imagine my delight when I discovered that this was in Madrid:

8-2: New Game: Masterpiece or not? September 24, 2008

We went to the Prado Museum today, which is cool.  The Garden of Earthly Delights is incredible.  (I need to learn more adjectives.)  We walked around the entire place, but we were both a little bored so Brian created a new game called Masterpiece or Not.  Every room we went into, I had to guess which were masterpieces as designated in the program.  I didn’t guess very well, but at the end of the game, we were both like, “What makes a masterpiece anyway?”  We have no idea.
