9/26: had a yard sale September 28, 2009

I don’t believe I have ever done this before.  I do not believe that I will do it again because it was a ton of work.  Kate, my dad, and I have been talking about this for years but never got around to it until now.  We cleared a decent amount of money and it feels great to have everything gone.  The things that didn’t sell were donated to Goodwill (if appropriate) and everything else went into the trash.

Favorite moments:

  • When the pink chair collapsed and I fell on the ground
  • The kid taking the presents out of the Santa Claus decoration and being disappointed that they weren’t real presents
  • The guy who bought a Coors Light sign and four Simpsons dolls

Good selling indeed.

Warning:  Nerd Alert!

If you know nothing else about me, know that I love to read. I was delighted to find an email from Joel Derfner in my inbox today, a response to an email I sent about how I laughed my head off when I read his book Swish: My Quest to Become the Gayest Person Ever.  I thought it was very cool for him to respond, so I thought I would throw this out here:  This book is hysterical.  Buy it.

Which makes me feel guilty for listing this as a new thing.  I have a habit of emailing authors of books that I really enjoyed.  Awhile ago I received a reply from Abigail Thomas also because I loved her book Three Dog Life so much that I read the entire thing at a Barnes and Noble straight through.  So you can check her out too.

3/6: bought beer at a gas station March 8, 2009

Now maybe you have access to these types of establishments where you live, but my eyes were shocked when I found a gas selling packy.  Even weirder, the cashier thought I was walking (ummm… its a gas station) and tried to double bag my beverages.  She also thought it was weird that I asked for clarification that they do indeed sell gas as well as liquor and beer.  However, this is Massachusetts and you don’t see this type of business so much around here.  Important note: I did not drink the beer until I was safely at home.

What a trainwreck.  It was filthy and boxes were opened.  Granted, it may have been the one I was at, but it completely disgusted me.  And I went for school supplies and ended up only getting a bunch of crappy crayons (not Crayolas!) and crappy markers and it was like 17 bucks.

How have I never done this before?  It is like a holy place for the vain.  Brianna and I went out to dinner (at 4:30- early bird special once again!) and we cruised around the mall afterwards.  I wish I had not entered these sacred walls because I could spend a zillion dollars there.  For the record, I only spent $22.50 which I think is getting out cheap because I wanted to spend like a thousand.

12/24: skipped church December 29, 2008

I know, I know- this is horrible.  Brian and I went to Portsmouth, NH for the day to hang out.  We had a few drinks (hooray for Circus Boy!) and shopped a bit (but didn’t actually buy anything.  We did almost wreck ourselves on the sidewalks, which were ice covered with a sheet of water.  Hilarity almost ensued, but we managed to stay upright.  We didn’t get home until about 7:30 and the church I usually go to with my dad on Christmas Eve has only a 7 o’clock service (not a late night one, which I would have definitely attended.)  I feel like a jerk, but it was a really fun day.

Also, thanks to Chris for helping me figure out the blogroll thing!

12/11: went to Price Rite December 13, 2008

So I go to this grocery store and imagine my surprise when I am paying for my groceries and notice they are putting them into my cart without bags.  I said, “Ummm… why aren’t they in bags?”  And the guy said, “You have to buy the bags.”  So I did, but I feel like that is an important piece that should be included in the grocery experience.

I had heard that this was a cheap place to get groceries, but the price was not that different from say Stop and Shop AND it was a complete zoo.  Game over- I will not be returning.

Also, happy birthday, Aunt Carol!

This one is not covered in cat puke or soaking wet.  I would say its a win-win.

10/24: ordered deli meat on a computer and picked it up later October 24, 2008

I didn’t know you could do this, but at Stop and Shop, they have a computer where you can order your deli items and they package it up and call your number over the loudspeaker when it is ready.  This is a complete timesaver considering there are two young men who work the counter at the store I go to who are, every single time, not in appropriate states of mind to be at work.  It makes it kind of funny, but getting your order takes about 10 minutes longer than it needs to.  Here is an example:

Me: Hello!  Could I have a pound of honey roasted turkey?

#1: What?

Me: A pound of honey roasted turkey please.

#1: How much?

Me: A pound.

Then he takes roughly six minutes to do this while he and his buddy are cracking up.

#1: Here you go.  Anything else?

Me: A pound of American cheese.

#1: How much?  1/2 pound?

Me: No.  A whole pound.

#1: Here you go.

I look at it and it is 1/4 of a pound.

Me: I asked for a pound.

#1: I didn’t hear you.

Me: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

20 minutes later, I was on my way.

As you can tell, I am quite pleased to not have to deal with this anymore.

9/29: bought new clothes for work October 15, 2008

In the spirit of my well dressed friend Brianna, I used her as an inspiration and bought some clothes that I thought she would like at Banana Republic.  My new school is much more formal than my old one, so I needed to purchase some items to fit in dress-wise.  I got some really cute stuff, but I won’t post pictures of it all.  I feel like an adult!
