So far, so good! I am looking forward to the rest of the summer. I have a really nice group of kids.
4/27: finished my licensure program! April 28, 2009
Whooooooo!!!!! After three years, one master’s degree, and seven additonal graduate classes, I have finally finished my second licensure program. I am now licensed to teach (pending processing) moderate disablities pre-k to 8th grade and regular ed. 1-6 grades. NO MORE SCHOOL!!! NO MORE SCHOOL!!! I have nights to myself. This is so freaking awesome. I worked my butt off so I am so so so excited to be done. PS- of course I mean no more grad school. I will certainly be continuing to teach.
1/22: tried Qwizard January 23, 2009
Time: one hour and fifteen minutes of a meeting, fifteen minutes of sheer terror and fear of judgment
For those of you who don’t know (which was me yesterday), Qwizard is this really cool tool that you can use in your classroom. It is interactive and can be programmed with all sorts of fun stuff. We learned about it at a staff meeting and they needed volunteers to try it out. The moderator acted like the teacher and a bunch of people volunteered to be students. The woman next to me (who is a lovely person and incredibly outgoing) volunteered, then panicked and threw the remote at me. I am quite shy and not an attention seeker in the least, so I was horrified. However, I will say that I did quite well, even in front of all those people. Consider that the questions were similar to, “Here are five fish. One fish is jumping. Look at the picture. Tell what number fish is jumping.”
10/29: wrote my first report card October 31, 2008
Ten to go! I didn’t have to do this at my last job because the academic teacher did it. Now, I am the academic teacher. It isn’t so bad though- just takes some time, but the system is easy to navigate.
10/26: wrote my first progress report October 27, 2008
Three down, eight to go. I am ahead of the game, so if I do three tomorrow, three Tuesday, and two Wednesday, I can start on report cards on Thursday. It is pretty neat to track how they are doing- the students are working really hard.
4/15: went to a resume workshop April 19, 2008
I did this because it was at my school and you had to do it to get to this job fair that I am going to next week. I don’t need help with my resume, nor did I want help with it, but like I said, it was required. I came out with the exact same resume I went in with because it was fine to begin with, but I got my entrance badge for the job fair so hopefully the resume will work its magic for me next Wednesday.
3/11: got a new job March 12, 2008
I am so excited and I can’t stop jumping up and down. It is in a public school (metrowest) and I will be working with kids in K-5 who are on IEPs. The job search was the most frustrating thing EVER since I finished student teaching- I cannot wait to start! I was also a little picky about the towns I wanted to work in, so I am super excited about this one. AND I get to still work at afterschool, which I absolutely love, until the end of the year. Thank goodness for an understanding boss.
