9/14: wrote a letter to a tv station September 14, 2009

On the morning of September 11th, during the moment of silence, Fox 25 in Boston cut to a commercial.  Here is the letter I wrote in response:

Good afternoon,

I just wanted to state how disappointed I am in your decision to cut to commercial during the moment of silence in remembrance of 9/11.  I find that completely tasteless and disrespectful as well as unpatriotic.  For this reason, I will no longer be watching your station or visiting your website.  I think you owe your viewers an apology, especially since the Boston area (sadly) figured so prominently in that day’s events and you can be almost certain that some of those most closely affected were watching.

Sincerely,

Sandy214

9/11: remembered September 13, 2009

September 11 was a horrific yet important day in the history of the United States.  To try to change the tone of the day from a day of remembrance in honor of those who lost their lives as well as those who heroically acted to do whatever it took to help to a day of national service is inappropriate.  September 11th should forever be a day of remembrance and reflection and nothing else.  There are 364 other days of the year that could be used as the official day of service without being disrespectful.

Never forget.

1/20: watched the inauguration with my class January 21, 2009

Time: about fifteen minutes

It was fascinating to see this piece of history.  My class wasn’t super interested (I believe this was because I postponed- NOT CANCELLED, JUST POSTPONED- recess so we could watch it.)  Some of them were interested, but some were not at all.  I was interested though President Obama and I do not share many of the same views.  I think that the US needed a change and, though I am not confident in President Obama’s ability to lead our nation, I am hoping to be proven wrong.  Either way, our president is now President Obama and I will support him as a person who is proud to be an American.

11/4: deleted a post November 5, 2008

I wrote a post about the election, but I deleted it.  This is the first time I deleted a post I wrote, so it is my new thing. I just decided I don’t want to get into any politics here. Yes, I voted, and yes, I am interested in the election.

4/7: Concord Museum and Minuteman Park April 13, 2008

Today, I got to go on a field trip with fifth graders (my job has me switching throughout grades K-5.) We went to the Concord Museum. I did not have high expectations for this, but it turned out to be really interesting. I plan to go back again when I can take more time to look around.

We also got to go to Minuteman Park, which is incredible. It is gigantic, and there are statues and bridges and a walking path. There was also a man dressed in colonial wear who came to speak with the students. It was really interesting. I think that this might be a good place to go for a run after work some time.
