If you live in MA, you probably know what this is. If not, it is basically (exactly) a big fair. I don’t understand the mass appeal- it was just like any other fair I’ve ever been to (sans the elephant at the Topsfield Fair.) It was fun. I was on a field trip with the Special Olympics (hooray for letting Special Olympics in free, boo to $13 chicken nugget meals.) I had a bunch of kids from my class last year, who are just terrific, and a fantastic mom and sister of one of my previous students as my co-chaperones. We had a blast.
We did not get these, but we did watch people who did- gross (a cheeseburger with bacon contained between two donuts.)

Amazing. I have lived here for five years and have locked myself out only twice. Both of those times were this weekend. I suck. Thank God for fantastic neighbors.
As you may know from the previous post, a number of lifts were closed at Sugarloaf. As we skiied, we noticed that there were not a lot of people around, but we kept going because where the heck else could we go? When we came to a road, we realized we had made a pretty bad decision. We didn’t realize how bad till Dan and Brian pulled out the trail map and realized we were on a golf course.

If you zoom in, you can see that we were basically in the middle of nowhere with two snowboarders and four skiiers. Luckily, we only had to hike for a bit before Derek flagged down a bus which brought us back to the main area. We would have been hiking for like 3 hours so thank God for that bus!
PS- Dude Guy is in this photo.
We went skiing with friends at Sugarloaf in Maine. What a blast. Anyway, it was so windy on Saturday that they closed down almost all of the lifts and used the snowcat to get people up to where the TBar (according to one tool: “The largest vertical surfact lift in the USA”) could take you most of the way to the summit. It was really fun to ride in this thing! Good friends, good skiing, and greasy food- what more could I ask for?
Also, I fell four times (none skiing- all when I was walking!)
1. Climbing off of the golf course
2. Leaving the Widowmaker Pub
3. In a pitch black tunnel
4. Walking through the woods to the other condo
I am covered in bruises, but it was well worth it.
*Happy Birthday, Bri!*
Brian held him while I put out a dish of wet food (Friskies beef something or other- revolting, but he loves it) and put down some catnip. He shocked me by beelining for the food. He then veered to the catnip. Catnip wins.
FYI: this is the real Oscar. He somehow got himself inside the box and was gearing up to pop out at someone and was also peering out with his laser eyes. FYI 2: The previous sentence may be the worst sentence I have ever written.
Time: two hours
Cost: zero dollars because they have a sled
I suppose I should keep this location secret because it is so fun, but I will tell you. I went with my bff Mel, her fiance, two sons, one stepdaughter, and Brian. We had so much fun that I can’t even accurately describe it. I will ask her if I can post a picture so you can view our winter happiness.
Danny was snowboarding and he was great. Ben bailed out on the sled a few times. Brian and I had a competition to see who we could launch further into the snow. It was too close to call.
I know, I know- this is horrible. Brian and I went to Portsmouth, NH for the day to hang out. We had a few drinks (hooray for Circus Boy!) and shopped a bit (but didn’t actually buy anything. We did almost wreck ourselves on the sidewalks, which were ice covered with a sheet of water. Hilarity almost ensued, but we managed to stay upright. We didn’t get home until about 7:30 and the church I usually go to with my dad on Christmas Eve has only a 7 o’clock service (not a late night one, which I would have definitely attended.) I feel like a jerk, but it was a really fun day.
Also, thanks to Chris for helping me figure out the blogroll thing!
Yes, A scratch ticket. Not 10 two dollar ones, not four five dollar ones, but ONE twenty dollar one. It was the Red Sox one. Guess what we won??? Freaking nothing. Brian and I stared at it like, “How can this be? We just spent $20.”
I always have this dream that I am going to win a million bucks on a scratch ticket or in the lottery (with these numbers that came to me in a dream.) However, to win, one would actually have to play, and I do that rarely. I just feel like my money would be better spent being donated to an animal shelter or something. It is fun every now and then to play though.
I just checked the MA State Lottery webpage and discovered that it has updates of people who win. The big winning tickets ($1 million or over) always seem to be sold in random places like (per the website info today) Oxford, Ashland, and Westport. I don’t think I have ever been to any of these places in my life.
Not a four, but an iv. They allow you to do this at home. Interesting. For those of you who don’t know, Barney is 16. I have had him since my days at WJHS. I adore this cat. He was not eating much and drinking a ton, so we brought him to the vet tonight. He is apparently dehydrated so they gave us an AT HOME IV to do. Ummm… I am a teacher. Brian is a finance person. Neither of us have any medical training aside from CPR. Luckily the needle only goes into his scruff. I am looking forward to being completely scratched tomorrow. Anything for the B Man!
PS- Barney is very active. He runs around and climbs up and down our ladder (we live in a loft) with ease. In case you think I am being horrible and not letting him go, that is not the case at all.
