10/4: the Big E October 6, 2009

If you live in MA, you probably know what this is.  If not, it is basically (exactly) a big fair.  I don’t understand the mass appeal- it was just like any other fair I’ve ever been to (sans the elephant at the Topsfield Fair.)  It was fun.  I was on a field trip with the Special Olympics (hooray for letting Special Olympics in free, boo to $13  chicken nugget meals.)  I had a bunch of kids from my class last year, who are just terrific, and a fantastic mom and sister of one of my previous students as my co-chaperones.  We had a blast.

We did not get these, but we did watch people who did- gross (a cheeseburger with bacon contained between two donuts.)

We had family fun night at my brother’s house and we played Scene It.  I am not really a movie person, but it was so fun.  We were cracking up.  That is one long game though.  Brian and Tina ended up tying I believe.

Unfortunately (or fortunately) it wasn’t this version.  Image from: http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:vKy2h38m7r6asM:http://images.marketplaceadvisor.channeladvisor.com/hi/79/79452/sceneit_deluxe_startrek-01.jpg

Yes, I have ridden a bike before, but it has been years.  My dad and I cruised through the south shore today.  My legs are killing me, but I had forgotten how much I enjoy riding a bike.  And I didn’t even skin my knees!

The year is winding down.  My school had some really fun activities.  They played tag, did an obstacle course, danced, did karaoke, played kickball, and we had Burger King for lunch.  It was a decent day.

6/23: just missed an opportunity to sing karaoke with a drag queen June 25, 2009

I am so bummed out.  She was super nice.  We were nervous to get onstage and she said she would sing with us, but Brian and I had to leave.  Tina, I am so jealous that you got to sing with her!  FYI: this was at my mom’s birthday dinner at a random south shore Chinese restaurant.  An excellent time was had by all.

Not her!

6/13: Group Photo Hunt June 19, 2009

As Brian and Bryan were golfing, Kim and I were virtual BFFs this weekend.  Some highlights include: art, eating burgers, drinking, being the last two people at the Fours, being denied entry into anywhere in Faneuil Hall, staying up until 4 am, and seeing a shirtless faceoff outside of Tia’s.

The super highlight was when we went to a bar in the North End and played photo hunt (you know the one- GIRLS!)  As we were playing, we gathered some accomplices and we all played together.  Then we did a shot.  Then we remembered how old we are and got in a cab and went home.

6/12: made horrendous art June 19, 2009

There is an art gallery on the first floor of my building.  From what my eyes have been assaulted with, it appears that any jerk off the street can roll some clay into a ball and call it a sculpture or spray paint metal and scrape it off.  For the completely reasonable price of $2700 you could have the metal fiasco to hang on your own personal wallspace.  Maybe I don’t understand art at all.

My friend Kim and I decided that we would make some art of our own since anyone who wants to can apparently have a show in this gallery.  We are thinking it will involve white zin, Cheez Its, and absolutely no class.  Our supplies were: model magic, black paper that you scrape off to reveal colors, glitter, paint, and posterboard.  Throw in some Mexican food, chips, and a number of baby Coronas and you have quite an evening.

Sadly, we didn’t come up with a reasonable theme so we don’t have a show yet.  We will try again soon and I will definitely post pictures.

7 ounces of fun!

PS: If you live in MA, you should check this place out (Museum of Bad Art) http://www.museumofbadart.org/

NOTE: I did not paint these. I am just laughing my head off at them and wanted to share.  They are from the Museum of Bad Art.

4/25 Bonus 2: went to a murder mystery show April 26, 2009

This was so much fun.  It was reasonable (tickets were $49 but included the show, dinner, and dessert) and we had a blast.  We were there to celebrate Melanie’s birthday.  The group I was with are some of my nearest and dearest and we have fun no matter what, but this was really an excellent night.  Also, the food was really good.

2/14 bonus: skiied a golf course February 16, 2009

As you may know from the previous post, a number of lifts were closed at Sugarloaf.  As we skiied, we noticed that there were not a lot of people around, but we kept going because where the heck else could we go?  When we came to a road, we realized we had made a pretty bad decision.  We didn’t realize how bad till Dan and Brian pulled out the trail map and realized we were on a golf course.

If you zoom in, you can see that we were basically in the middle of nowhere with two snowboarders and four skiiers.  Luckily, we only had to hike for a bit before Derek flagged down a bus which brought us back to the main area.  We would have been hiking for like 3 hours so thank God for that bus!
